ZELIENOPLE — An agreement between the borough and a local businessman regarding ownership of the historic Kaufman House wrapped up 14 years sooner than expected this week.

During a meeting of borough council Monday, members voted to approve a sealed bid to sell the historic property to K-House Zelie Associates.

Built in 1903, the Kaufman House has been a fixture in the borough for more than 100 years. It closed in 2011 after a kitchen fire severely damaged the building.

A major reconstruction project began in March 2017, with the borough purchasing the building from Butler County Tourism and Convention Bureau. The borough agreed to pay for as much of the exterior refurbishment of the Zelienople landmark as possible through a grant.
