Business park will expand
SLATE LICK, Armstrong County — Northpointe Business Park just off Route 28 in Slate Lick will soon have a new 30,000-square-foot, multi-tenant office building.
Rich Palilla, executive director of the Armstrong County Planning and Development, said Thursday the county received $2 million from the state Redevelopment Capital Assistance Program earlier this year for the building.
On Wednesday, the county got an additional $2 million from the Economic Administration, part of the U.S. Department of Commerce for the project.
Palilla said the money for the $4.1 million office building has gone to the Armstrong County Industrial Development Council, which oversees the development of the county's business and industrial parks, including the 1,000-acre, mixed-use park being carved out of Slate Lick farmland.
He also said the council has retained Burt Hill, the Butler-based architectural firm, for the building's plans.
Besides the branch campus of the Indiana (Pa.) University at Northpointe, the park also has several high-tech, electro-optic businesses, which make optical equipment for the military and civilian businesses.
A news release from U.S. Rep. John Murtha, D-12th, who has helped to establish Armstrong County and Northpointe as a tech-development hub, said the new building should bring about 60 new jobs to the park.
Palilla said the building should be completed by spring 2009.
