Car drives under semi-trailer truck on Route 8
PENN TWP — Two people were hurt when a white convertible Mustang drove under a semi-trailer truck that was pulling out of the Planet Mart convenience store on Route 8 Tuesday night.
The scene was just north of the intersection with Dinnerbell Road.
“When I saw it, I was in shock,” said witness Steve Stepanian, 23, of Butler. “It went right under the truck.”
Witnesses said the convertible, driving south, did not appear to slow down as it approached the truck. After traveling under the bed of the truck, the car hit a telephone pole.
The accident occurred about 9:40 p.m.
Records from the Butler County 911 Center showed the last rescue unit left the scene at 1:40 a.m. today.
Township police, who did not immediately release any names, said the cause of the collision is under investigation.
Police did not yet have a report available this morning.
The truck driver, an Ohio man, was not injured. But a medical helicopter landed on Route 8 to take the car’s driver, a man, to a Pittsburgh hospital. A passenger in the convertible, a woman, was taken by ambulance to Butler Memorial Hospital.
