BASA mulls having evening meetings
BUTLER TWP — The Butler Area Sewer Authority will explore the possibility of meeting at night rather than in the morning.
The authority’s board will discuss that possibility at its March meeting. Currently, the board meets at 9 a.m.
Butler Mayor Tom Donaldson told the authority board Tuesday morning that city council in January passed a motion that asks public boards to move their meetings from daytime to evenings if possible.
Board Vice Chairman Robert Swartz said changing the meeting time should not be done blindly, but should be explored first. He said the discussion next month will help.
“That gives up time to assess the situation,” Swartz, who noted a daytime meeting works best for him.
Board member Cynthia McKnight said that she had concerns that the authority’s solicitor and consulting engineer may have trouble making it to meetings at night. However, she noted that a night meeting would better fit her schedule.
Executive director Tom Rockovich said that he would ask the solicitor and engineer how the change would affect them.
In January, the City of Butler Parking Authority changed its meetings from Thursday afternoon to Wednesday night because of the city council motion.
Additionally on Tuesday, the authority board re-elected officers in their same positions.
They are: Gerald Patterson, chairman; Swartz, vice chairman; George Shockey, secretary; Kenneth Henry, treasurer, and McKnight, assistant secretary/treasurer.
