Cole Johnston & Co. have their mojo heading into a highly anticipated rematch against Central Clarion next week.

Karns City beat Oil City 25-12 Friday night on the road to finish the regular season 9-1. The Gremlins now face the Wildcats, who throttled Moniteau 73-8 in the district semifinal, in the District 9 Class 2A championship game at a site and time to be determined. KC’s only loss this season came against these Wildcats, and the Gremlins are trying to win a second straight title.

Johnston hit Owen Kaufman for a long touchdown pass to kick things off, and the defense made multiple stops. Stats from this game were not available.

Freeport 34, Burrell 12 — The Yellowjackets end the season 9-1 (5-1 Allegheny 7 Conference) on a six-game win streak and, combined with North Catholic’s win over Highlands, now own the second spot in the conference ahead of the WPIAL playoff bracket reveal Saturday.

Danny King ran for two touchdowns and threw for a pair to Luke Selinger. One of the TD tosses pass came on a nifty pop pass on a play in which Freeport faked a QB sneak on fourth-and-2 and threw it over the unsuspecting Bucs defense. Selinger’s touchdown catches covered 19 and 43 yards. He intercepted a pass and recovered a fumble as well.

King rushed for two touchdowns and Chace Flynn scored on a 10-yard run. Bryson Paga caught four passes for 96 yards.

New Castle 50, Seneca Valley 28 — Rory O’Shea caught four passes for 68 yards and a touchdown, and ran for two more TDs, and the Raiders’ season came to a difficult end at 2-7.
