Zelie man, 20, shoots self in standoff

A 20-year-old Zelienople man shot and killed himself Tuesday inside his house after holding police at bay through the afternoon and into the evening.

Police reportedly went into the house at 127 Oakdale Drive about 9 p.m. and found the body of Conner O'Halloran in an upstairs bedroom. The county coroner ruled he died of a self-inflected wound from a shotgun.

The standoff started about 1 p.m., reportedly after the man's father got out of the house and called 911 to report that his son had a gun and was in the house.

Police from various departments in the county descended on the Timberbrook housing plan off West Beaver Street in the western section of the borough. With only one road leading into the plan of apartments and single-family houses, police were able to shut down the plan, blocking residents from entering or leaving.

Police reopened the housing plan late in the evening.
