Mars Area reports high school COVID case

A Mars Area ninth grader has tested positive for COVID-19, according to an announcement posted on the website Tuesday. The post indicated the district was notified this week of the infection.

According to the announcement, the student — who is also a junior varsity soccer player — was last in school Sept. 25 and has been quarantining since.

Per pandemic protocol, the district has contacted the Pennsylvania Department of Health (DOH) and is implementing necessary steps for safety and contact tracing.

Those who came in contact with the student have been asked to remain at home through Friday. Friday is the end of the 14-day quarantine period recommended by the DOH.

The junior varsity soccer team the student is on will not be practicing or playing until after Friday.
