Zumbathon will raise funds to fight cancer

Event scheduled for Saturday

CRANBERRY TWP — Pancreatic cancer has the highest mortality rate among all cancers, yet it only receives about 2 percent of all federal funding for research.

However, township resident Kelly Riddle is doing her part to ensure more money goes to funding research initiatives for pancreatic cancer.

That’s why she’s holding a Zumba event Saturday in the township municipal center from 10 a.m. to noon.

Last year it brought out more than 120 people.

Riddle lost her husband Sean last year to the disease, less than a year after his diagnosis. He died the day before his 43rd birthday, Riddle said.

Kelly Riddle has been a fitness instructor for the past 23 years, so it only made sense to incorporate Zumba into charity.

“It’s a fun way to raise money that will go toward something that makes a difference,” she said.

The couple’s two children, 12-year-old Gavin and 10-year-old Payton, will co-host the event in memory of their father.

“Unfortunately, there are genetic links with pancreatic cancer, so hopefully any research done now can benefit my children in the future,” Riddle said.

The Zumbathon for Sean event will feature multiple Zumba instructors dancing to music, basket raffles and a bake sale.

The cost is $12 before Saturday and $15 at the door. Those wanting to register can call Riddle at 412-901-0664.
