Man charged after punching neighbor

Attacker had pipe wrench in his hand

CRANBERRY TWP — A township man is accused of punching a neighbor while holding a large pipe wrench early Sunday morning.

However, Robert A. Beall, 47, the suspected attacker ended up in the hospital with injuries after the victim fought back, township police said.

District Judge Dave Kovach on Monday arraigned Beall on charges of aggravated assault and criminal mischief, both felonies. He also is charged with possessing an instrument of crime, loitering and prowling at night time, and simple trespass, all misdemeanors.

Beall remains free on non-monetary bail. His preliminary hearing is set for 10 a.m. Friday.

Police suspect Beall may have had a bit too much to drink about 1:30 a.m. when neighbor Christopher Michalski, 39, looked outside his home on Cashmere Court and saw Beall clutching a 16-inch or 18-inch pipe wrench,

When Michalski went outside to confront Beall, the suspect with the wrench in hand attacked him, punching the victim, police said.

Michalski, who suffered cuts and swelling to the head and cuts on at least one elbow, defended himself and tackled Beall, according to a police report.

Beall was taken to UPMC Passavant Cranberry after complaining of back pain. He was treated and released Sunday.

Beall on Monday turned himself in for arraignment at Kovach’s office in Cranberry. His attorney John Linkosky of Carnegie, Allegheny County, could not be reached for comment
