Students cited for drinking
ADAMS TWP — A group of Mars High School students will start their summer vacations or their first days after graduation by responding to citations for underage drinking.
According to a township police report, high school Principal Todd Kolson notified police on Tuesday that he had nine students in his office who smelled of alcohol.
The report stated that the officer who went to the school found that the students had mixed Gatorade and vodka and had been drinking it during the school day.
The report said both boys and girls were cited, but it did not say how many of each. The students were cited for underage drinking and will have 10 days to respond to the citations.
They will then receive a court date when they will appear before District Judge Wayne Seibel, said Shawn Anglum, Adams Township assistant police chief.
The report said the students’ parents were called Tuesday and asked to pick up their children at the school.
The report did not say whether all of the students were juveniles or if any were 18 years old.
Mars School District Superintendent Jim Budzilek on Thursday afternoon would not talk about the incident, saying the district does not comment on student issues.
He also would not say if the students would be permitted to attend commencement, which was Thursday night.
