Mahomes will curse Niners
He has the arm of Dan Marino.
He has the improvisational ability of Brett Favre.
And he has the intangibles of Joe Montana.
He's Patrick Mahomes and he's why the Kansas City Chiefs will win Super Bowl LIV over the San Francisco 49ers.
Quite simply, Mahomes will be the best player on the field, bar none, Sunday in Miami.
Sure, San Francisco has an impressive pass defense. The 49ers surrendered just 169.2 yards through the air, which is a staggeringly low number considering the NFL is all about making defensive backs look silly these days.
But the Niners didn't face a quarterback like Mahomes and certainly not a quarterback playing as well as the Madden coverboy has in the postseason.
Madden Curse? What Madden Curse?
A closer look also reveals that maybe the 49ers pass defense isn't as good as some would believe.
The Niners gave up 23 touchdown passes and had just 12 interceptions. Both numbers are in the middle of the pack.
They can be exploited, especially by the speedy and electric band of smurfy receivers the Chiefs employ.
It's strength against strength, but I believe the Chiefs pass offense can get chunk plays against the 49er pass defense.
That spells doom for San Francisco.
The Chiefs also have an underrated running game.
Damian Williams is due for a big game. He's shown flashes in the postseason with three touchdowns.
And then there is Mahomes, who actually leads Kansas City in rushing yardage this postseason.
He adds an added dynamic with his legs — an uncanny ability to not only move in the pocket, but break out and make plays with his legs.
It's hard to believe that just a few months ago, Mahomes laid prone on the pile after a quarterback sneak against Denver with a dislocated knee cap.
That kind of injury usually ends a season for a player, but not for Mahomes. He miraculously avoided serious injury and only missed a few weeks.
The Chiefs dodged a major bullet.
Still, Mahomes finished with 4,031 yards passing, 26 touchdowns and just five interceptions.
He's the difference.
As a bonus, Andy Reid will finally get to the pinnacle of the sport.
The man deserves it.
He has more than 200 wins. He's led two teams to the Super Bowl. And he looks like a giant apple wearing the Chiefs' red.
What's not to like about Reid winning the Super Bowl?
Kansas City 35, San Francisco 24.
Sorry, Kyle Shannahan. You'll have to come up with more Shannahanigans to beat these Chiefs.
