KITTANNING — The Housing Authority of the County of Armstrong will be opening its Section 8 housing waiting list July 1.

The list has been closed for one year.

The Section 8 voucher program is a rental subsidy program that helps tenants pay rent in privately owned homes that meet specific standards.

Income eligible tenants sign a lease with a private landlord, who signs a contract with the authority to allow subsidies to be paid on the tenant’s behalf.

The tenant’s portion of the rent is based on 30 percent of the family’s adjusted income.

Families must meet guidelines set by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Applications can be picked up beginning next month at senior centers in numerous municipalities, including Bradys Bend, Freeport, Parker and Worthington. Families may also request an application be emailed or faxed to them. For information, call 724-548-7671.
