Butler man charged with criminal attempt to sexually assault minor in Clearfield County
A Butler man accused of attempting to meet a minor for sexual activity is incarcerated in Clearfield County Jail with the assistance of an online predator hunter group.
James Andrew Cogley, 48, attempted to meet what he believed to be a 15-year-old girl in the parking lot of an old Uni-Mart, according to a Facebook post by the Curwensville Police Department in Clearfield County. Police said he had been sending sexually explicit messages to a decoy posing as the girl since June 18.
Cogley is charged with felony criminal use of a communication facility and four felony counts related to the criminal attempt of aggravated indecent assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, corruption of minors and unlawful contact with a minor following his arrest Saturday, Oct. 24, according to the post.
Police said Cogley sent multiple sexually explicit photos and videos of himself and messages to the decoy and planned to bring her to his Walker Avenue residence in Butler. Police said Cogley has an “extensive” criminal history.
The Clearfield County District Attorney’s Office and 814 PredHunters participated in the investigation.
