The Butler Area School District announced Wednesday that the start of the school year has been delayed due to transportation issues.

The school year, originally scheduled to begin Thursday, will now start on Tuesday Sept. 3, the school district announced.

The district has been working to resolve issues to establish transportation routes for the school year.

Superintendent Brian White acknowledged in a letter to parents on Monday that information on bus stops was delayed due to software issues.

On Tuesday, a second letter from White noted that many students had been assigned to routes and bus stops that “don’t make sense.” For example, the software assigned students in larger neighborhoods to a single bus stop instead of the multiple stops preferred by the district, White said.
