Cranberry Twp. OKs $2M deal with contractor for project

CRANBERRY TWP — The township has entered into a $2 million agreement with a contractor to draw up the final design plans for renovations to the Brush Creek wastewater treatment plant.

The project, which could be ready for construction by the fall of 2015, could cost nearly $65 million and is necessary to remain in compliance with changing regulations from the state’s Department of Environmental Protection.

The plant is being renovated also in an effort to expand its flow capacity, which is expected to increase significantly alongside the township’s growing population.

Assistant township Manager Duane McKee said Monday that engineering firm GHD will oversee the design-phase of the project. The contract is worth $2,269,400.

The township will use a different firm for construction at the plant, while GHD will likely be involved in the process up until construction starts.

McKee said the project will likely last another year after construction starts.

“It’s a big one,” he said. “Things are going to move along pretty quickly. There’s going to be a lot of design work and permitting, so we’ll be pretty busy with that for now.”
