Vehicle-related fees increase on Tuesday
Several vehicle-related state fees will increase on Tuesday. That is the result of a law passed in 2013 to raise money for state transportation funding.
The fee for a replacement license plate will increase from $7.50 to $11. The fee for the transfer of a registration plate will go from $6 to $9.
Vanity license plates will increase from $20 to $76, and zoological and other special plates will go from $35 to $54.
In 2012, the most recent year statistics are available, Butler County had 3,791 zoological plates and 3,776 vanity plates. The total number of vehicle registrations for the county that year was 208,724.
Inspection stickers will increase from $2 to $5.
According to the state Department of Transportation, most of these fees have not gone up since 1997.
In April, other vehicle fees increased, including fees for state ID cards, duplicate licenses, certificates of title and title security interest.
All increases are mandated by Act 89 of 2013, a state law that provides a $2.3 billion increase in transportation funding.
The fees for driver’s license and vehicle registration renewals will not go up until July 2015.
