Road work planned in county
Three bridge and roadway repairs are scheduled to begin across the county Monday, involving some lane closures and the construction of temporary bypasses on some of the county's most traveled roads.
Starting Monday, PennDOT's contractor, Golden Triangle Construction, will work to replace the bridge on Interstate 79 north over North Boundary Road. The southbound bridge over the same road was replaced in 2019 with a single-span, composite steel multi-beam structure.A temporary roadway will be installed such that traffic can move freely during the bridge replacement.PennDOT did not immediately say how long the lane closures would last, nor did they indicate when work on the actual replacement bridge would begin.
Single-lane traffic restrictions on I-79 north will begin Monday and last through Friday, with the same restrictions in place the next week, to widen the shoulder of a bridge carrying the interstate over East Lancaster Road. The bridge was damaged when it was struck by an overheight truck in 2019.One lane will be closed from mile marker 90.9 to mile marker 91.4. PennDOT did not say when the second phase of the project, which will repair the actual bridge and remove a detour, would begin, nor did they give an estimate on when it would end.
A temporary roadway and drainage work will be constructed beginning Monday on Route 68 between Medical Center Road and West Slippery Rock Street in preparation for bridge and roadway repair to resume.According to PennDOT, there will be no detours.PennDOT did not say if any of the road's two lanes would be closed, nor did they say approximately when the work would be finished.
