Garage destroyed in fire early Saturday morning

Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company.

A fire, reported early Saturday morning, Oct. 24, destroyed a garage on Ekastown Road in Clinton Township.

Nobody was in the garage during the fire, and no one was injured in the flames, according to Michael Krchelich assistant chief of Saxonburg VFC.

Krchelich said the garage, which was attached to a greenhouse, was fully involved by the time he arrived at the scene, its walls collapsed and its roof already caved in. The fire was reported just before 4 a.m.

The greenhouse is still in-tact, according to Krchelich, even though the distance the fire was from the road made maintaining a water supply a task that required numerous departments to respond to the emergency.

“We were about 700 feet off the main road, it was Ekastown,” Krchelich said. “We did bring in multiple tankers for shuttling water from Saxonburg.”

The scene was cleared by about 6:30 a.m., according to a Butler County Emergency Services report.

Krchelich said he is unsure who called to report the fire, and the cause of the fire is not yet known. A Pennsylvania fire marshal will investigate the fire, Krchelich said.
