Cranberry touts success of roadside trash program
CRANBERRY TWP — Officials at a meeting Thursday night touted the success of the township’s Adopt a Roadway program that’s been in place since 1997.
Jason Dailey, director of public works for the township, said there’s an extensive waiting list for local businesses that want to participate.
The program, used by states around the nation, involves getting a business or community group to sponsor a road for a two-year period. During that time the organization is responsible for picking up trash and litter along its designated road.
“It’s tougher to get into this program than it is to get a seat license for the Steelers,” Dailey said.
Local participants have picked up nearly 4,000 bags of trash and litter since the program’s inception, Dailey said. That includes nearly 200 bags already collected this year.
Dailey added that volunteers log more than 400 hours annually in the program.
Anyone wishing to participate in the program must commit to a two-year service period. Those interested in participating can call Barby Osterrieder at 724-776-4806.
