Mechanical failure caused truck to tip
FRANKLIN TWP — A mechanical failure caused a Center Township maintenance vehicle to tip on its side Wednesday morning.
The accident occurred just after 8 a.m. on Unionville Road near North Road, just past the Center Township line in Franklin Township.
Ed Latuska, Center Township supervisor chairman, said the 1989 International truck was driving when a universal joint failed.
“The universal joint in the front came loose, causing the truck to roll over on its side,” Latuska said.
The driver of the truck, who township officials did not identify, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital but was not injured, according to Latuska.
“He’ll be off for a couple days with some bumps and bruises,” he said.
Mark Lauer, Center Township public works director, said the driver was wearing a seat belt and did nothing to cause the accident.
“It was a no-fault incident,” he said.
State police are investigating.
The Portersville Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene.
