In a few weeks, I'll be writing my feathers to the bone, fearlessly predicting the outcome of our area high school football games.

But before I forecast the future, dear readers, you get to go first — because the Pittsburgh Pirates' streak of 19 consecutive losing seasons appears to be going away.

When the Bucs post their 81st win of the year, that losing streak is bye-bye.

The Butler Eagle is running a readers contest asking you to predict the date the Pirates will secure that long-awaited 81st victory.

All of you Saturday morning quarterbacks love to mock my inaccuracies — on the rare times they happen — once the high school scores roll in.

Entry coupons will appear each day on the sports pages of the Butler Eagle, and in each edition of the Cranberry Eagle, beginning this weekend.

Just pick the day on the calendar the Pirates will secure their 81st win. Even my bird-brain can take a stab at that, but I'll leave my picks to the pigskin.

Enter as often as you wish, but enter early, because the first tie breaker will be based on which entry was received first. If two or more people choose the correct day and turned in the entries on the same day, the winner will be chosen by random drawing.

We'll even make it worth your while.

The winner will get two seats in the Lexus Club when the Pirates host the Atlanta Braves Oct. 1 at PNC Park, including the all-you-can-eat buffet and free snack foods during the game.

We ain't talking bird food here. And that game could prove critical to the National League's wild-card race.
