A Butler woman is accused of resisting and assaulting officers during an arrest for public drunkenness.

Butler Township Police charged Chelsea L. Cornetti, 31, with felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor resisting arrest, as well as summary violations of public drunkenness and criminal mischief.

Following her arraignment Sunday morning by District Judge William O'Donnell, Cornetti was placed in Butler County Prison on $10,000 bond.

According to charging documents, police responded to Chili's in Butler Commons, Butler Township, on Friday for a woman screaming at employees.

Police said that when they arrived they were advised of Cornetti's appearance and her vehicle. Police said when they found Cornetti she was walking along New Castle Road and smelled of alcohol.

“Officers talked to Cornetti about what happened at Chili's when Cornetti abruptly stated, 'I'm done. I'm going home,'” said the investigating officer in the affidavit.

Police said officers informed Cornetti she was being detained for public drunkenness, and she began to resist arrest by moving her arms away from officers. Police said she also tried to walk away from officers.

“The officer attempted to grab Cornetti's wrist when she pushed (the officer),” police said.

Once placed in the station's holding cell, the same officer who was shoved was removing handcuffs for her, and she again tried to hit the officer.

“Cornetti only missed due to the (officer) dodging the swing,” police said.

According to police, Cornetti continued to act belligerently while in the cell, including making lewd remarks toward officers, screaming and kicking the bars.

“Several times while in the holding cell, Cornetti attempted to clog the toilet and caused the toilet to overflow,” police said.

A preliminary hearing for Cornetti is scheduled for Sept. 16 before District Judge Kevin O'Donnell.
