Minto getting ready for main event at Harmarville

Brian Minto doesn't care how many wins he has - as long as he continues to have no losses.

"You better believe I'm going to take every fight seriously," said the Butler professional heavyweight boxer. "I have too much at stake."

Minto, 14-0, 7 KOs, will face Mike Middleton (9-12) of Tampa, Fla., in a six-round main event May 22 at Harmarville Blade Runners.

The 220-pound Middleton is coming off a TKO of Moises Droz in his last fight.

"He wouldn't be making the trip up here if he didn't believe he could win the fight," said Felix Dialoiso, Minto's co-manager. "Brian has made a name for himself in boxing across the United States.

"Fighters know what he has. It's not going to be easy to get him fights. Anyone who takes him on is going to be tough," he added.

Minto took a week off after his April 23, eight-round TKO of Jeremy Bates in Wheeling, W.Va., garnered him the West Virginia heavyweight title.

Minto won't be defending his title in Harmarville. His first title defense will be June 18 against Billy Douglas (10-1), the younger brother of former heavyweight champion James "Buster" Douglas, at The Harv in Chester, W.Va.

Middleton has the reputation of having a good jab and is difficult to knock out.

"The guy is a survivor," Dialoiso said. "Brian will have to outbox him to win."

Later in the same night he knocked out Bates, Minto was unable to shake hands with well-wishers because of soreness in his right hand.

"My hand wasn't broken or anything," he said. "The tendons were inflamed. I've been taking it easy and it's been getting better."

Minto plans on sparring three rounds with Calvin Brock (20-0) to help the former Olympian get ready for a May 15 bout against Terry Smith (20-0), which will be televised live on NBC.

Two other fighters who train out of the same Ambridge gym as Minto - Monty Meza Clay (9-0) and Alfonzo Williams (5-0) - will be on the May 22 fight card. There will be seven or eight pro bouts scheduled.

Tickets are $25 for general admission bleacher seating, $35 for ringside, $40 for ringside table seating and $50 for golden ringside.

Tickets are available by calling Kirk at 724-991-1861 or 724-282-2170. Seating capacity will be approximately 2,000.

"We're anticipating a full house," Dialoiso said. "That should be quite a night."

Minto said he would fight again in Butler "but there really isn't a facility big enough right now."
