1883 Gatling gun, stagecoach sold at Old West auction
DALLAS — Bidders spent thousands of dollars last weekend to own a piece of a Pennsylvania mayor's dashed dream.
Harrisburg Mayor Stephen Reed had spent millions of public dollars for the items for a proposed National Museum of the Old West. Under a City Council order, some of the items went up for sale at a two-day auction in Dallas.
The items sold included an 1883 Gatling gun that went for $280,000, a Wells Fargo & Co. stage coach for $90,000, and a Conestoga wagon for $35,000.
It's unknown how far the sale will go toward paying off Harrisburg's debt, the reason for the auction.
