Arrest made in bomb threat at Mars Area High School
A person was arrested Thursday, Oct. 15, in connection with a Tuesday bomb threat made toward Mars Area High School.
According to a statement by superintendent Mark Gross, Adams Township Police Department made an arrest Thursday afternoon.
On Tuesday, law enforcement conducted a security sweep of the high school after a bomb threat referencing Friday, Oct. 16, was found written on a bathroom wall. Seven different bomb squads and bomb-sniffing dogs swept the building that afternoon.
Gross said in Thursday’s statement there is no threat to students or staff at the high school or any district building. However, out of caution, the high school will have “enhanced security measures in place” and an additional sweep by law enforcement will be conducted before classes start Friday.
“The district would like to thank Adams Township Police Department, City of Pittsburgh Police, Northern Regional Police Department, Beaver County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement personnel for their quick and diligent response, as well as for their continued support of the district’s efforts to ensure a safe and secure educational environment for our students, faculty and staff members,” Gross said in his statement.
Tuesday’s threat was the second in several weeks to affect Mars Area School District. A swatting incident on Sept. 30 caused many Butler County school districts to temporarily lock down.
