Buffalo Twp. man faces 4 felony drug charges

BUFFALO TWP — A township man is facing felony drug charges after a routine traffic stop Sunday turned up four bags of suspected marijuana and a handgun in his pickup truck, authorities said.

Buffalo Township police said they pulled over Lucas D. Harvey, 25, around 4:15 p.m. on Sarver Road when they noticed his truck's registration was expired.

The smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle caught an officer's attention, according to court documents, and Harvey admitted that he had the drug in the center console. He told them it was for personal use and not for distribution.

The officer searched the truck and found four Ziploc bags of marijuana and a .40-caliber pistol, documents said. Police noted Harvey has a carry license for the gun. A county assistant district attorney advised police to seize the gun since it was found with drugs, documents said.

Harvey was subsequently released, and police on Monday charged him with four felony counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and four misdemeanor counts each of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

He also was cited for driving an unregistered vehicle and driving a vehicle without valid inspection.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 27 at the office of District Judge Sue Haggerty in Saxonburg.
