BHS graduate to lead Bayer in worker-related concerns

Cameron

ROBINSON TWP, Allegheny County — Melissa Cameron, a native of Meridian, is the new ombudswoman for Bayer Corp., North American Operations.

She said Monday in her new position she serves as "a neutral party in worker-related concerns.

"If a worker comes to me, I then conduct an informal investigation into their complaint or information, such as harassment or someone stealing from the company," Cameron said.

After completing her investigation, Cameron will make recommendations to the corporation's leaders, such as clarifying confusing policy language.

Cameron works for Bayer USA and Canada, with 15,500 employees included in the company's Health Care, Material Science and Crop Science divisions.

Working with Greg Babe, president and chief executive officer for Bayer Corporation and Bayer Material Science, Cameron said she will be working to "embed compliance into the culture of the corporation."

Or in other words, make sure the workers understand Bayer policies and philosophies "so that right and wrong are not an afterthought, and that they will spot issues, both legal and ethical."

Cameron is a 1991 graduate of Butler High School. She graduated from Allegheny College with a bachelor's degree in English, with minors in philosophy and bioethics.

In 1998, she earned a law degree from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and worked for 10 years with MEDRAD as senior attorney and director of compliance. She lives in Allison Park with her two dogs.
