I appreciate Cyndi's comments regarding how often people may have a change of heart regarding medical decisions when their decisions have immediate life and death consequences. I have often seen families and patients reverse course many times over treatment decisions, often challenging their own beliefs.

Contrary to what she writes, I believe medicine does need defended from the dual threats of of onerous government regulations and intimidation from the Religious Right.
