Man, 20, faces gun charges
A 20-year-old man was arrested Thursday on a felony gun charge for allegedly brandishing a pistol during an altercation with another man earlier this week in Butler, authorities said.
City police said Claude T. Taylor III and another man about 4 p.m. Sunday went to an apartment in the 300 block of West Jefferson Street where the defendant confronted Toni Smith Sr.
Taylor at one point pulled a handgun from his waistband before passing it off to the other man, according to court documents. The defendant then punched Smith in the face.
Taylor and Smith fought before Smith ran out of the home and down the steps, with the defendant and the other man giving chase, police said.
The alleged victim managed to make it to his car and drove to the police station for help. He was not seriously injured.
Police arrested Taylor, who was arraigned Thursday by District Judge Sue Haggerty on a charge of illegally possessing a firearm. The defendant, police noted, is prohibited from having a gun stemming from his prior conviction for illegal possession of a firearm by a minor.
Haggerty also arraigned Taylor on a felony charge of conspiracy and misdemeanor charges of terroristic threats and simple assault. He was placed in Butler County Prison on $40,000 bail following arraignment.
Police on Thursday were still looking for the man who accompanied Taylor to the apartment and took the gun from the defendant. It was not immediately known if police plan to charge him.
