Police chase leads to arrest on reckless driving charges
After leading police on a chase that ended in a crash early Wednesday morning, an Oakland Township man was charged with reckless driving and driving with a suspended license.
Cody Lee Austin, 31, was arrested after crashing his vehicle near the intersection of Pittsburgh and Dinnerbell roads.
Shortly before 3 a.m. Wednesday morning, a black Subaru was seen driving northbound along Pittsburgh Road at about 70 mph. The vehicle continued to accelerate to over 80 mph while in the right lane, according to police. The vehicle attempted and failed to make a right turn onto Dinner Bell road, crashing into a jersey barrier and street sign, police said. Austin was then arrested.
According to police, Austin told Middlesex Township police officers he did not stop because he was driving while his license was suspended due to a DUI arrest.
Austin faces a preliminary hearing at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 20 in front of District Judge Jack D. Ripper.
