'Pink hat lady' in court

A status conference was held and another was scheduled for the “pink hat lady” accused of taking part in the U.S. Capitol riots in January.

Rachel M. Powell, 41, of Sandy Lake, Mercer County, appeared virtually Monday for a status conference before U.S. Judge Royce C. Lamberth.

The result of that status conference was to schedule a new status conference. The next one is set for Jan. 7.

A former West Sunbury resident, Powell remains released on her own recognizance since she left Butler County Prison in February.

According to charging documents, Powell is accused of battering a window of the U.S. Capitol building with a large wooden pole, among other things.

A mother of eight, Powell faces charges of obstruction, depredation of government property, entering a restricted building or grounds with a dangerous weapon, entering a restricted building or grounds and violent entry or disorderly conduct.
