Butler Township brings ‘S’more Fun’ to Preston Park Oct. 10
Before the region cools off for the winter, Butler Township is taking a night to host “S’more Fun in the Park” at Preston Park.
The event, which is the first of its kind for the township, will feature more than 20 varieties of non-traditional s’mores from organizations and residents for attendees to try. It will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at the park.
The event benefits the state police Camp Cadet program — a weeklong camp for youths that teaches self-discipline, teamwork and leadership skills while building positive relationships with law enforcement.
Township manager Tom Knights said the event was inspired by the Guys Who Grill event that takes place in the summer.
“We invited a lot of local folks, either businesses or people from around the community, to come in and make any version of s’mores they want. People are being very creative about it,” he said.
There will be multiple varieties of s’mores such as popcorn, strawberry shortcake, s’more cream cone, cinnamon caramel apple, “The Elvis” and more.
Knights said the township decided to try something new and unique, rather than another Oktoberfest event.
“It’s very broad, and trying to find vendors can be a challenge,” he said about the former event. “A lot of them kind of move into the holidays after the summer is over.”
Still, the s’mores event will feature a number of craft vendors, alongside balloon art by Weird Eric, face painting, themed temporary tattoos, basket raffles and more.
Tickets cost $10, which allows for up to 10 s’mores. Additional s’mores require additional tickets.
Tickets are on sale at the Butler Township Municipal Building, Cummings Coffee & Candy West on Evans City Road and the Butler YMCA. Tickets can also be purchased the day of the event.
