Tesla hits state police cruiser Tuesday on Interstate 76 in Cranberry Township

A marked Pennsylvania State Police vehicle was struck while monitoring traffic Tuesday morning along the shoulder of Interstate 76 near the on-ramp to Cranberry Township, according to police.

Police said a marked Dodge Durango was sitting along the shoulder of I-76 monitoring traffic just before 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, when a Tesla Model Y sedan, driven by Randy Jones, 65, of Las Vegas, went off the road while traveling east.

The Tesla traveled about 125 feet through a grassy area, then the driver’s side of the vehicle struck the passenger side of the Durango, police said. After the impact, the Tesla traveled another 100 yards and up an embankment before stopping.

Jones was transported by Cranberry Township EMS to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. The officer involved was not injured.
