Man in prison on felony drug charge
An out-of-state fugitive remains in the Butler County Prison on a felony drug charge following his weekend arrest stemming from a scuffle at a Butler bar.
City police said they caught Benjamin P. Washington, 29, who has no known address, with 20 stamp bags of suspected heroin early Saturday morning.
Officers found Washington after being called shortly before 2:30 a.m. to My Buddy’s Bar on Pillow Street for a reported fight, according to court documents.
Police said they had to deploy a Taser after the defendant allegedly struggled with officers’ attempts to place him in handcuffs. No injuries were reported.
A search turned up the suspected heroin inside the defendant’s jacket pocket, documents said.
Washington was arraigned on a felony charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance and disorderly conduct.
Additionally, police said the suspect faces a fugitive from justice charge after they learned he was wanted in Georgia on a warrant for unspecified charges.
A preliminary hearing for Washington, who is in the county prison on $75,000 bail, faces a preliminary hearing Oct. 26 before District Judge Pete Shaffer.
