Warrendale-based retailer rue21 set to offer stock

MARSHALL TWP, Allegheny County — Discount clothing retailer rue21 on Thursday filed with the federal Securities and Exchange Commission to go public with offering of common stocks.

The shares of stock to be sold and the prices have not been determined. The offering date has also not been set, according to securities exchange filing.

rue21 sells girls and guys apparel, accessories, footwear, jewelry and fragrances mainly for youths ages 11 to 17.

In the company's filing, it claimed a net income of $12.6 million on sales of $391 million for the fiscal year ended Jan. 31.

It operates 505 stores in 43 states.

Founded in 1976, the company is headquartered the Thorn Hill Industrial Park in Warrendale.

The company hopes to expand to more than 1,000 stores in five years.

Lynch, Goldman, Sachs & Co. and J.P. Morgan and Piper Jaffray & Co. are acting as underwriters for the proposed offering.
