Stanley Kosciuszko

Kosciuszko

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Stanley M. Kosciuszko on Friday, Oct. 2, 2026.

Stan was a 1969 graduate of New Castle High School. He attended Washington & Jefferson College where he studied biochemistry and then later moved to Paris, France to attend University of Paris I: Pantheon-Sorbonne, where he received a Masters in French Literature. Stan served 12 years as the executive vice president of the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce and then 20 years as the president of the Butler County Chamber of Commerce.

Stan’s life was expansive and accomplished, but perhaps his greatest accomplishment was the community of people he built around himself. He was charismatic and made connections easily. He was the kind of person who could walk into a room knowing half the people already, and by the end of the night, he’d know the rest. He had an uncanny ability to read people, sussing out someone’s character from a mile away.

Stan also knew how to throw a memorable party. Generous with his time and his delicious cooking, he loved bringing people together around a five-course meal and a perfectly dressed table — no detail left undone. Sometimes there were steel drums or late-night swimming, but always there was Stan’s storytelling, a talent like no one else. He had countless friends who will miss his sharp wit, his honesty, and, most of all, the feeling of being deeply cared for when in his presence.

Stan leaves behind his beloved husband and partner of 40 years, Joseph Young and their two dogs, Poppy and Jake. Stan is also survived by his siblings, William Kosciuszko, Wayne (Deborah) Kosciuszko and Annette (Jim) Hutchison.

Stan was preceded in death by his parents, William and Clara Kosciuszko; and brother, Anthony Kosciuszko.

Stan will be remembered with admiration, with laughter, and above all, with love.
