James Matsons Letter to the editor

Yesterday, I read possibly one of the most ridiculous letters ever. It was titled "Big rigs have right of way". James Matson of Butler gives us all the "priveledge" of seeing the world according to him and his "wisdom" because he is or has been a truck driver for 30+ years. Well, Mr. Matson I've got news for you. I called the DMV, I talked to state troopers. No where in the Pa. vehicle motor code book does it say that "Big Rigs" Automatically get the right of way. No matter how you wish this to be so or how your warped thinking twists things. The fact is that no matter who you are or what your driving; if you are driving along and you see a yield sign you are supposed to YIELD! You are not supposed to force your way into traffic because you feel you are priveledged or because you think you are special because you are driving a "Big Rig". The fact is that Main Stream traffic has the right of way. If they choose to not let you in and make you wait your turn that is tough; you wait! Just because your driving a bigger vehicle doesn't give you the key to the highway. Should we all be courteous and allow Big rigs enough room at yield signs to get onto the highway? Yes! But this isn't always possible. That doesn't mean that the Big rig driver should take it upon himself to pull out onto traffic because he feels justified to do so. I wonder how many dangerous situations you have put others in over your 30 year tenure because you thought you were a special case? I feel honored and priveledged to be the one to drop the brick on your head. Hopefully a lightbulb lit up for you making you see the error of your thinking. Remember; everyone should drive defensively but we should also be considerate of others as well. We shouldn't bully others on the highway just because of what we drive. The road signs apply to everyone, not just a select few. Remember Mr. Matson, just because you layed awake in bed one night and thought up your philosophy and "scientific" reasoning as to why you think your right doesn't make you right. We have laws and they apply to you as well as the rest of us. You seem to be a legend in your own mind. I hope now that you change for the sake of all of us.

Regards, John
