Wheel falling off uninspected trailer leads to crash
An uninspected trailer caused a crash after its wheels fell off in late September in Prospect, state police said Friday, Oct. 2.
The crash occurred at 6:54 a.m. Friday, Sept. 25, on New Castle Road near Main Gate Road. Police said a 379 Peterbilt driven by Richard McDeavitt, 45, of Butler, attempted to turn right into a neighboring parking lot. As McDeavitt was making the turn, the wheels came off the left side of the trailer and began rolling east.
One of the wheels that fell off struck a Ford Transit driven by Stanley Orvis, 70, of East Brady, who was traveling west with two 10-year-old and a 6-year-old passenger. After being struck, Orvis pulled off the road a short distance away while McDeavitt pulled over to await police response.
No injuries were reported. Police at the scene were assisted by Butler Ambulance Service and Prospect Borough Volunteer Fire Department.
