Juniors can apply for D.C. tour

PARKER — Central Electric Cooperative is seeking applications from high school juniors in its seven county service area for its annual Youth Tour for 2016.

The tour is an all expenses paid trip for students to travel to Washington, D.C., meet elected officials and learn about American history and politics.

The application process is open to all high school juniors who live in a home that receives services from Central Electric.

To apply students complete an application and include an essay or video about why they want to attend. They also need to participate in a selection day at the company’s headquarters, where they take a test and are interviewed.

Students can apply online at www.central.coop or through their school counselors. The deadline for applications to be received by the company is Feb. 5.

The trip to Washington, D.C. is June 12-17, and includes meetings with other students from all 50 states as well as tours of museums and seminars about electric cooperatives.

The company said more than 1,500 students take part in Youth Tour each year.

For information, visit www.youthtour.com or contact tour coordinator Renee Tritten at 800-521-0570 ext. 2173.

Central Electric covers portions of Allegheny, Armstrong, Butler, Clarion, Forest, Mercer and Venango counties.
