Fake ID found at traffic stop

Driver, 20, faces multiple charges

MIDDLESEX TWP — Fake IDs are a dime a dozen. Teens have been using them seemingly forever to thwart the drinking age law.

Experienced police officers can usually spot the bogus driver’s licenses or identification cards a mile away.

But one recent counterfeit card — a purported Pennsylvania driver’s license that turned up on New Year’s Eve in Middlesex Township — stood out.

Its high quality even earned the begrudging respect of law enforcement officers.

Middlesex Township police officer Bryan Costanzo admitted it was one of the best IDs he’s ever seen.

The license holder, Jared T. Frishkorn, 20, of Evans City, however, was busted and his forged ID seized. Police on Tuesday filed several charges against him.

Costanzo met up with Frishkorn after pulling him over about 8:50 p.m. Dec. 31 for speeding on Route 8. He was clocked going 65 mph in a 40 mph zone and stopped near Browns Hill Road.

The young driver handed Costanzo his real license and registration card. But after the officer had Frishkorn get out of the car, he found the suspect holding what appeared to be a second genuine, honest-to-goodness license.

That other license, after all, included bar codes and embedded holograms, including the state’s emblem and other features he came to expect from the actual state-issued document, the officer said.

It also contained Frishkorn’s photo and listed his personal information to a T, with one exception — his birth date, which would make him 22 that night.

But Costanzo learned the license wasn’t what it appeared, when he put it through a records check. The license number, it turned out, belonged to a dead man out of Elverson, a small borough in Chester County.

Although the alleged counterfeit license holder wouldn’t tell police where he got it, Costanzo said he suspects it originated from China, believed to be a supplier of false IDs that have turned up nationwide.

But the knockoff license was not Frishkorn’s only problem with police that night, according to court documents. Costanzo said he also turned up a water bong, an empty marijuana wax container, and other contraband in the suspect’s car.

A 30-pack of beer was also in the trunk.

Police charged Frishkorn with possession of drug paraphernalia, carrying a false identification card, underage possession of alcohol, and speeding.
