I had the opportunity to attend the saxonburg parade this past week, and to say the least, what a disappointment. The weather was beautiful and the crowd ready for a good time. Knoch high school led the parade off,,,what has happened to the spirited, high energy band of a few years ago? The band was less than 100 in numbers and the show stopping music and sharp stepping of past years were replaced by sloppy marching and a less than pleasing sound. The parade that used to be called "the largest firemans band east of the Mississippi", now consisted of a few minor marching units and more than enough fire equipment for one night. Bring back the long parade that went into the night, with high stepping marching units, and enthusiastic participants.
