This snowman was built overnight Monday at the intersection of Cross and College streets on Butler's east side. A city street worker was called to clear the road.

An overnight accumulation of good packing snow proved too much of a temptation for someone in Butler.

A snowman, 5 to 6 feet tall, was built in the middle of College and Cross streets on the city’s east side. It’s not known when the snowman took shape, but 911 got a call about 5:25 a.m.

“There’s a large snowman in the middle of the street,” a dispatcher relayed to Butler police.

Officers found the snow sculpture, which appeared to have a smile on its massive face. But the traditional carrot nose was nowhere to be found.

Police said they called the street department to clear the road of the potentially dangerous obstacle.

The snowman was met with a frosty reception from a city plow.
