CARLISLE — EMBARQ and CenturyTel announced their merger this week, adding that the new telephone and communications system will be called CenturyLink.
CenturyLink has a 33-state service area, including Western Pennsylvania and Butler County.
CenturyLink is a provider of voice, broadband and video services and is headquartered in Monroe, La.

Butler Memorial Hospital was named one of the top 100 hospitals for 2009-10 by the Hospital Value Index.The index is established by Data Advantage of Nashville, Tenn.Hospitals on the list are those that provide high value care at lower costs, according to Data Advantage.
National City Banks in Butler County that are to become PNC branches will be unveiled on Nov. 9.Many of the banks have had plastic-covered PNC signs installed several weeks ago.PNC Bank bought out National City this year.
The Oakview Ladies Golf League held its 10th annual breast cancer tournament at the Slippery Rock golf course in August, raising more than $12,000 for the Women's Imaging Center at Butler Memorial Hospital in Butler.Since its inception in 2000, the tournament has raised more than $40,000, all of which has been donated to the women's center.In 2008, the money was used to buy a digital mammography machine.
• S&T Bancorp announced a net income of $7.7 million, or 28 cents diluted earnings per share, for the quarter ended Sept. 30, compared to the net income of $15.7 million, or 57 cents diluted earnings per share, for the same quarter 2008. For the nine months ending Sept. 30, the net loss was $5.6 million, or 20 cents diluted earnings per share.• F.N.B. reported a net income of $4.8 million, or 4 cents per diluted common share, compared to a net income of $9.1 million, or 10 cents per diluted share for the same period in 2008.
