Data centers, AI bad for society
Data centers are now using over 4% of all the electricity in the U. S. This is estimated to double by 2028. Electric bills are rising as more data centers are built each day.
Data centers are not good for the environment. They use our land, pollute the air, deplete our precious water supply and cause noise pollution. Artificial intelligence eliminates jobs. You often cannot get a person when you call businesses or try to make appointments.
Trillion-dollar technology companies like Google and Amazon are receiving billions of dollars in federal, state and local tax breaks. The One Big Beautiful Bill Act allows a 100% first-year deduction for data center expenses, so Big Tech firms can save tens of billions of dollars on their taxes.
What are we going to do when computers think for themselves, redirecting all the electricity to data centers, leaving us in the dark?
