Larry Holt

Holt

Larry Holt, 79, of Butler, passed away surrounded by his loved ones on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2026.

He was a faithful member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Connoquenessing.

Like his father and son, Larry proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy. Following his military service, he spent many years working at Marmon/Keystone before retiring.

He spent most of his life as a baseball umpire in the Butler County Sports Officials Association (BCSOA) and the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA). Larry loved the game of baseball and passed on his respect, sportsmanship and knowledge of the game to young players, coaches and future umpires alike. He was an active member of the Nuts bowling league, where he enjoyed the friendships and camaraderie that came along with the competition. He also enjoyed gardening, playing pickleball, hunting and watching wildlife, especially the Pennsylvania elk herd.

Larry was a man who was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. To know Larry was to love him. He was known for his infectious smile, his kind heart and his willingness to help anyone who needed it. In his final days, Larry would continue to make friends with the hospital staff and his final wish was to let others know how grateful he was for his amazing life and the love he shared.

Larry was a devoted father and Grampy. He is survived by his children, Tina Shockey (Matt) and Brian Holt (Allison); and his grandchildren, Thomas (Abby), Jake and Eli Shockey, and Lukis and Zoe Holt. He is also survived by his siblings, Marlene Skelley, Lana McKinnis, Kevin Holt and Robin Hodge. Larry leaves behind a special companion of the past several years, Barb Olenic, with whom he shared many cherished memories.

Larry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Pat, with whom he shared 52 years of marriage; his parents; three brothers; and two sisters.

Larry’s greatest gift was simply being Larry — a man with a smile, a helping hand and a genuine love for people. His presence brought joy to those around him, and the memories he created with his family, friends and community will remain forever.

He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered and forever cherished.

HOLT — A private memorial service for Larry Holt, who died Thursday, Oct. 1, 2026, will be held at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul’s UCC, Box 252, Connoquenessing, PA 16027.
