Jury deadlocked in kidnap-murder trial
BEDFORD — A Bedford County judge must decide what to do now that the jury in a kidnap-murder case says it is deadlocked after 35 hours of deliberations.
The jury says it cannot reach a unanimous verdict on any of the charges against 49-year-old Joseph Clark. Clark is accused of kidnapping and stabbing 25-year-old Holly Notestine in April 2000. Her remains were found nearly four years later a few miles from her Everett home.
The jury told the judge they were deadlocked Thursday afternoon. Judge Daniel Howsare has asked the jury to return today, when he'll decide whether to declare a mistrial or ask the jury to continue deliberating.
The jury was chosen in Butler County and bused to Bedford because of the intense local publicity about the case.
