Church nearing deal on property with presbytery

PITTSBURGH — The largest church in the Pittsburgh Presbytery has reached a tentative agreement of its lawsuit to let the church keep its property once it leaves the Presbyterian Church USA for a more biblically conservative group.

Officials with the Presbytery and the Memorial Park Presbyterian Church in McCandless Township told a Pittsburgh newspaper that an agreement was reached in principle to settle the suit, but neither side released details.

The church's members voted 664-25 last month to leave the denomination.

Memorial Park has 1,675 members but said the number of those who voted reflects its typical Sunday attendance.

Memorial Park is the second Allegheny County church to leave the presbytery. The church will join the conservative Evangelical Presbyterian Church denomination.
