Paserba to receive educational honor
PITTSBURGH — Robert Paserba of Center Township was to have been honored today for his support of the Catholic/Jewish Educational Enrichment Program.
He was to receive the Abraham Joshua Heschel Award at a luncheon celebrating 15 years of C-JEEP.
It is sponsored by the American Jewish Committee, Pittsburgh Chapter, and the Department for Catholic Schools of the Diocese of Pittsburgh.
Paserba was superintendent for the Catholic Schools for years and retired in 2014 as secretary for Catholic Education and Evangelization.
He oversaw the program for many years along with Susan Simons, youth program coordinator for the American Jewish Committee.
Paserba said in a release, “The Abraham Joshua Heschel Award, although being presented to me as one of the ‘founders’ of the program in 2001, is really a diocesan award for its efforts in furthering dialogue and for sustaining a wonderful interfaith partnership between the Diocese of Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Area Jewish Committee.”
Paserba is a former superintendent of the Butler School District.
C-JEEP is an educational program in which Rabbis and Jewish educators teach about Judaism in Catholic high schools and Catholic educators teach about their faith in Jewish schools, congregations and youth groups.
The luncheon was to be at Freehof Hall, Rodef Shalom Congregation, 4905 5th Ave.
