Trick-or-treat with local businesses at Preston Park

Preston Park will be the site of a special event Oct. 29 where dressed-up guests could score tricks and treats from local businesses and organizations.

The Butler County Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with Butler Township has gathered more than 20 organizations to set up stations in the park that will give out candy and other treats for kids in an early trick-or-treat event.

“It is just a little extra something for Halloween this year,” said Caitlin Blum of the chamber. “This is a first-time event for this, and we are going to send the kids through to trick-or-treat at vendors booths.”

The fun runs from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the park.

Vendors that will be in the park giving out treats so far include NexTier Bank, Butler First Step, Butler County Dairy Promotion Team, Family Bowlaway, Alliance for Nonprofit Resources, Quality Life Services, Dollar Bank, Armco Credit Union and the Butler County board of commissioners.

Blum said the organizers of the event asked vendors to be able to supply candy for about 500 children. She also said there could be some music playing, but this being a first-time event, the organizers want to see how it goes before adding more activity ingredients to the mix.

“We're expecting a pretty large turnout,” Blum said. “This is going to be a trial this first year; we are hoping next year it will be a little bit bigger.”
