Lyndora 5K to raise money for manufacturing monument

The Butler AM Rotary Club wants to not only celebrate the Lyndora area, but honor the people who helped build it and surrounding communities.

On Saturday, Oct. 10, the Rotary is putting on the inaugural Lyndora Historical Walk, Run & Roll 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run, a “community celebration that honors the rich heritage of Lyndora while bringing people together through fitness, fun and service.”

The event will raise funds intended to go toward building a monument in Lyndora that represents manufacturers that built up Butler over many years.

The event will start out with a 5K at 8:30 a.m., followed by the 1-mile long walk and fun run at 9:30 a.m.

“Whether you’re chasing a personal best, enjoying a leisurely walk with family and friends, or participating with a stroller or wheelchair, this event truly welcomes everyone,” according to the event page. “The scenic course winds through the historic streets of Lyndora, showcasing the community's proud industrial history, beautiful neighborhoods and exciting future.”

In addition to the festivities, the Rotary is also hosting a car cruise in the area. There will be basket raffles, coffee and food trucks.

The event will be held by the new blue fields in Pullman Center Business Park.

“One of our goals as a group, we are all about children and families,” Ashley McCandless, a Rotarian and lead organizer, said. “We wanted to do something geared toward families. We also want to raise money for, somewhere in the area, building a monument that represents the manufacturers that helped build Butler. We wanted something that brought attention to Lyndora.”
